Locals Forecast (“we,” “us”) connects surfers with independent local forecasters. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.

Information we collect

  • Account: email address and display name you provide at sign-up.
  • Profile (forecasters): bio, coverage spots, and payout details you submit to Stripe.
  • Content: forecasts, public previews, reviews, and ratings you create.
  • Location: if you allow it, your approximate device location is used to find nearby forecasters and spots. You can deny or revoke this in your device settings; the app still works without it.
  • Usage: forecasts viewed, subscriptions, and basic diagnostic/error logs to keep the app working.
  • Payments: processed entirely by Stripe (web/Android) or Apple (iOS in-app purchases). We never see or store your full card details.

How we use it

To provide the service: delivering forecasts, processing subscriptions and forecaster payouts, computing accuracy scores from ratings, surfacing nearby content, preventing abuse, and providing support. We do not sell your personal data.

Third-party services

  • Google Firebase — authentication, database, and hosting.
  • Stripe — subscription payments and forecaster payouts (web/Android).
  • Apple — in-app purchases and subscription management (iOS).
  • Google Places — spot/location search.

Each processes data under its own privacy policy.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the app (Account → Delete account) or by emailing us; this removes your profile, forecasts, reviews, and subscriptions and cancels active billing. Some records may be retained where required for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes.

Your choices

  • Access, correct, or delete your data via the app or by contacting us.
  • Control location access in your device settings.
  • Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (e.g., GDPR/CCPA) — contact us to exercise them.

Children

Locals Forecast is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Security

We use industry-standard safeguards, but no system is perfectly secure. Use a strong, unique password.

Changes

We’ll update this page and the “last updated” date when this policy changes.
